Kim Kardashian Gets Drink Thrown in Her Face

Kim Kardashian – she with the big butt and the (self?) leaked porn tape – had one drink too many at a NYC night club last night; namely a drink that was thrown in her face by an unidentified woman.

According to TMZ, the reality star was at Juliet’s, on West 21st Street in Manhattan (which is Rihanna threw the release party for her most recent album, Rated R)
Rihanna at Release Party at Juliet

when a guy came up and asked if he could take a picture with her. Kim, of course, graciously complied.

The guy’s girlfriend went off.

She threw her drink in Kim’s face.

Kim’s younger sister, Khloe, then went after the girlfriend,
Kim Kardashian
and in the fray her wedding ring skid across the floor. At that point, Khloe abandoned her sister and dove across the floor after the ring. She eventually recovered it.

And good thing, too! The ring is reportedly 9 carats, and cost about $850,000.
The 9 carat, $850,000 ring!

Of course hubby Lamar Odom, the NBA star she married after knowing him a month, can afford it.

Lamar Odom

Hmmmm . . . I wonder how much child support he has to pay for the two children he had with ex-girlfriend Lisa Morales; whom he knew a bit longer than a month I would speculate . . . seeing as their kids were aged 10 and 7 when he married Khloe.

Lisa Morales and Lamar Odom

Oh well!

All in all I say it’s safe to say the drink-in-the-face incident was just part of a good night’s fun for the Kardashian clan. In fact, though, it may have been more business than fun. After all, the Kardashian’s were in town filming for their reality series.

I’m not saying the dramatic incident was staged.

But then again, I’m not.

Because, as they say, it’s hard Keeping Up with The Kardashians.

Rapper Beanie Sigel On His Way "Back Home " Behind Bars?

Seems like Gangsta Rapper Beanie Sigel just can't get enough of the Feds.

Or it could it be that the Feds just can't get enough of Sigel?

Whatever way you slice it, though, Sigel is under federal indictment -- AGAIN -- and this time for tax evasion. An indictment released earlier this week accuses Siegel of not paying federal income tax on about $1.54 million he earned 2004, 2005, and 2006.

If convicted, Sigel -- who starred in the 2002 movie, State Property -- faces up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $300,000.

But it won't be like Sigel would necessarily find himself in unfamiliar surroundings.

In 2004 Sigel, whose goverment name is Dwight Grant, was convicted on a federal weapons charge and spent a year behind bars.

Don't cry, though, it could have been worse.

He was orginally arrested for attempted murder after shooting a man in front of a Philadelphia nightclub. But the man and another witness changed their testimony, saying they couldn't say for sure it was Sigel who fired the shots.

As an aside, both men earlier told police they received death threats. So Sigel was acquitted of the attempted murder charges, but got stuck with that old nasty illegal guns charge.

Soon after his release in 2005, Sigel was once again in trouble. Seems that the feds had the nerve to tell Sigel to stay away from from drugs as part of his parole agreement. Like that was going to stop a real gangsta rapper? Not our Beanie! Sigel was thrown in the clinker again after failing -- not one, but FIVE drug tests.

Then Sigel was arrested again in 2008 after traveling to Atlantic City without prior permission from his parole officer. He actually only had to do one day behind bars for the violation, although he then had to spend six months in a half-way house.

Sigel's attorney, Fortunato N. Perri, Jr., pointed out that Sigel was incarcerated during part of the period he's accused of not paying his taxes, and said that other people were supposed to be handling the rapper's finances during that time.

"I don't think he's being targeted," Perri said,"he just needs to get his personal business and tax affairs cleaned up."

Sigel, who hails from Philadelphia, was once closely associated with Jay-Z, but released a diss record against the music mogul late last year. He later said he was hurt that Jay-Z had not visited or written him letters while he was doing his time.

Breaking News - White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel to Resign on Friday

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is expected to step down tomorrow, and the resignation is expected to be announced by President Barak Obama at a press conference at 11:05 EST.

Emanuel is a longtime friend and supporter of Obama, but has caught a lot of flack because of his caustic nature and snappy way of talking to people. At a closed-door meeting in the White House with liberal activists, he called them "fucking retarded" for planning to run TV ads attacking conservative Democrats who didn't support Obama's health-care overhaul. You want feely-feely? You don't want Emanuel.

But that's not why Rahm is going on his merrily away . . .

As soon as Chicago Mayor Richard Daly III announced he wouldn't be running for re-election, Emanuel has been making google eyes at that position.

It's a known fact that Emanuel -- who had to resign his seat in the U. S. Senate representing the 5th Seat in Illinois -- was reluctanct to taking the White House Chief of Staff position was that he would have to leave his beloved Chicago.

Still no one can deny that Emanuel has done his job effectively, and has become known as one of the most effective White House Chief of Staff's in a decade. He will definitely be missed.

There's still speculation as to who will take Emanuel's place permanently, but it seems that White House Senior Adivsor, Peter Rouse will hold the position until a permanent Chief of Staff can be named.

Rouse was an advisor to former senator Tom Dachle, but when Daschle lost his relection bid, Rouse joined Obama's camp in 2004.

The highly anticipated music video -- Eminen's "No Love - featuring Lil Wayne" will air on MTV tonight.

Yep! Specifically at 7:56 p.m. according to the MTV folks.

The video comes off of Slim Shady's double platinum album Recovery, and it was reported that Enimen started a chant of "Free Little Wayne," at his jam-packed concert in California this past Saturday.

Lil Wayne, you all know, course -- was sentenced to a year in March behind bars at Riker's Island in New York City after pleading guilty in October on gun charges. I mean, you know, leaving a glock 40 on your tour bus where police can find it can do that you.

Lil Weezy's own album "I Am Not A Human Being" dropped earlier this week.

Reportedly Eminen was trying to hold Weezy down, starting chants of "Free Little Wayne" at a concert he did in California this weekend.

So for those of you wanting to drop him Lil Wayne -- aka Dwayne Carter -- a quick note to let him know you miss him, or how much you like the video or album, you can just go ahead and write him Ricker's Island, his inmate number is 02616544L.

See that, folks? I do what I can!

Is It Okay For Us To Like (Love) Michael Vick Yet?

Is It Okay for Us to Like (Love?) Michael Vick Yet?

The Philadelphia Eagles won this Sunday! And they won last Sunday, too! And no one can doubt it's because of Michael Vick! There's even talk about him being named Offensive Player of the Month!!!!

Should I be bothered by the fact I'm now cheering for a man who was convicted for animal cruelty?

As a diehard Philadelphia fan, I unabashedly, and emphatically, answer NO!

As an animal lover, and supporter of PETA, I timidly add . . . “I hope that’s okay.”

Oh gosh, I was so horrified in 2007 when I heard the news; Atlanta Falcons Quarterback, Michael Vick was implicated in a dog fighting ring. And then the news that he not only financed the “Bad Newz Kennels,” but he himself had killed dogs that under performed in the dogfights. I was outraged.

PETA – the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals – went crazy, and I went crazy right along with them. I love all animals, and have had pet dogs – including pitbulls -- most of my life. I sincerely believed that Vick needed to be ousted from the NFL and sent to prison. And he was.

In addition the Falcons made it clear that they wanted nothing more to do with Vick, and said they wanted back $20 million of the $37 million signing bonus they’d given him for his 2004 contract. He lost all of his endorsements, and he had to file for bankruptcy in July 2008 while still in prison. Hmph! I didn’t feel the slightest bit sorry for him.

But when he was released in from prison in 2009 – after serving 23 months at Leavenworth – animal rights activists were still up in arms, saying that NFL Commission Roger Goodell should ban Vick from the NFL for life, I was like . . . “What?”

Okay, as I said, I’m an animal lover, and truly believe that what Vick did was wrong, but I just can’t bring myself to believe that he should be made to suffer for the rest of his life for his indiscretion – as horrific as it might be.

The man admitted his guilt, served his time, and pledged to make substantial donations to animal rights organizations. After his release he voluntarily took a one-day PETA course, Developing Empathy for Animals, and also volunteered to do a public service announcement discussing how wrong it was to participate in dog fighting.

Don’t we send people to prison not only for punishment, but also for rehabilitation? And while it’s been shown that certain criminals – like rapists and pedophiles – have a high rate of recidivism, I’ve never seen a study that says the same for convicted dog fighters.

Yet, when the Philadelphia Eagles signed him to a one-year $1.6 million contract in August 2009 – with an option of second year at $5 million – animal activists urged Eagles fans to boycott the games, and threatened to hold protest rallies outside the stadium.

For his part Michael Vick took every opportunity to publicly apologize for his behavior, saying in a 60 Minutes interview that he was sorry for what he’d done, and writing on his personal blog:
We must stop dog fighting, and I will do everything in my power to be a voice of someone who has finally woken up from the numbness, and knows just how bad it really is. My mission now is to be a source of service to save many animals.
I am working very closely with The Humane Society and will be launching a new campaign shortly. If I had one hope in life, it would be that my actions will speak louder than my words.

I myself believe him. I’ve forgiven him. And I’m certainly happy that he’s now the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles and is 2-0 in the games he’s started.

And then the NFL season started!!!!!

Kevin Kolb got a concussion in the first game of the season and left the game with us losing 27-10 against Green Bay; Michael came in an got us 20 more points, but it was too little, too late . . . we lost the first game of the season. But what I saw of Vick, I really liked. I kinda started liking Vick.

The Vick started the next game against the Tigers, got the Eagles their first victory of the season. Yeah, I was really liking him.

Then Vick got us our second victory of the season, in a 23-3 romp of the Jacquars. He even ran the ball in for a touchdown himself. There's no doubt about it, I am officially a Michael Vick fan.

While I support and love PETA, I also support and love Michael Vick.

I just hope it’s okay to do both.

"Getting To Happy" Book Review

Getting To Happy - Book Review
(published in the Philadelphia Inquirier - Sunday, Sep 26, 2010)

'Exhale' sequel lacks chemistry
We learn what happens to those 4 fascinating friends, but this time they seem less connected.

Getting to Happy
By Terry McMillan
Viking. 375 pp. $27.95

Has it really only been 18 years since Terry McMillan wowed the publishing world with her book Waiting to Exhale? It seems like forever!
How I missed those four friends, Bernadine, Gloria, Robin, and Savannah (missed them in that order, by the way) and wanted to know how they were doing.

Did Bernadine and her new man, James, have a happily forever after? My bet was they did. Bernadine deserved it after the way her ex-hubby did her. Hmph!

And Gloria. Oh, my precious Gloria. The woman with the weight problem - like me - who managed to hit pay dirt with a good man like Marvin. There was no doubt in my mind that she was still in heaven. And I wanted to share the good life right along with her.

Robin - oh, that cute little promiscuous, shopaholic scamp! She was pregnant and still single when I last checked in on her. I didn't know if she had the fortitude to be a single mom, but I just knew she'd get by because of the strength of her friends.

Savannah? Well, to be honest, I never did really cotton to Savannah. But still, I did wonder if Miss Perfectionist had finally met a man who could live up to her expectations. I sincerely wished the best for her.

So when I heard that Terry McMillan was writing a sequel to her 1992 blockbuster, I went wild! Couldn't wait to see how my girls were doing!

Well, you could have blown me away.

Bernadine's second husband was 10 times the jerk her first ever was. And so now she's twice divorced, and hooked on prescription pills.

Gloria's happily ever after comes to a screeching halt in the first of her chapters in this new book, due to a sudden tragedy.

Robin is still addicted to shopping, and still a lonely woman, desperately looking for men in all the wrong places.

Savannah is - well, Savannah is still Savannah. While she was still single in Waiting to Exhale, Getting to Happy opens with her being married and deciding to divorce her new husband after finding out a rather dirty (but not earth-shattering) secret about him.

As much as I wanted them to be happy, nobody was.

But then, the title of the book should have tipped me off. Getting to Happy implies they haven't made it yet.

Still? Oh no!

Though Waiting to Exhale was McMillan's third book, after Mama and Disappearing Acts, it was the one that brought her worldwide fame, and her first million dollars. Not only did it make the New York Times best seller's list, but it was turned into a movie starring Angela Bassett, Whitney Houston, Loretta DeVine, and Lela Richon. The scene in the book - and the movie - in which Bernadine angrily threw all of her husband's belongings into his brand-new BMW and then set the car on fire was burned into everyone's minds. Wow, talk about revenge!

This was just one of the drama-filled scenes in Waiting to Exhale, but sadly, there are no such scenes in McMillan's new book.

Getting to Happy takes us on an exploration of the lives of the four friends, but unlike Waiting to Exhale, the friendship itself doesn't become a fifth character of the book. Instead, it seems that the women are all on their own and only check in on each other every once in a while. Even after Gloria's tragedy, we didn't see the women rally around her the way we saw in Waiting to Exhale.

Which made me realize that I loved the relationship between the four friends even more than I loved the women themselves.

One of the things I've always loved about Terry McMillan books is that her story lines are realistic, and turn out the way things really do turn out in real life: no fairy-tale endings just to make readers happy. And, to be truthful, what happened to each of the women is pretty much how it could have played out in real life.

And maybe the biggest problem I had with the book was that I thought if there was hope for Bernadine, Gloria, Robin, and Savannah, there might be hope for me.

When I first read Waiting to Exhale, I, too, was a single, not-so-young, black woman who would have been happy to have a man in my life. I remember hearing about some study that said, statistically, a woman was more likely to get hit by lightning than marry after the age of 40; but these women - man, these women gave me hope!

I applaud McMillan for "keeping it real," as the young folks say, in Getting to Happy. But, dang, Terry, don't you realize how much I needed everyone to really have gotten to happy by now? Come on, girl, help a sista out.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, donates $100 million to Newark School System

It will be announced today on Oprah that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg will donate $100 million to the Newark School System. This though the 26-year-old billionaire has no real ties to Newark! Zuckerberg was born in Westchester, NY and currently lives in California.

Zuckerberg -- who is said to be worth about $2 billion -- met Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker (Dem.) at a conference in July, and Zuckerberg became interested in Booker's stated plans for the school system. The two met a few more times, and an impressed Zuckerberg made the monetary pledge. It's not the first donation that the baby-faced executive has made, but it is his largest. Oprah Winfrey has also been a generous benefactor to the Newark School System in the past.

According to reports, Newark currently spends about $22,000 annually per student, yet only about 1/2 of it's 44,000 pupils graduate -- and only about 1/5 of those go on to college. And about 85 percent of Newark students attending community colleges need remedial math and english.

New Jersey Govenor Chris Christie will appear with Zuckerberg and Booker on Oprah to officially announce the donation.

Katy Perry Too Sexy for Sesame Street!

Singer Katy Perry, the popstar most famous for her song, I Kissed A Girl, will not be appearing on Sesame Street after all. Though her appearance was already taped, and the video released to YouTube, the show has bowed to public pressure and zapped the singer's appearance from their upcoming schedule. (You can see video below!)

In a press release the producers of Sesame Street said:

“In light of the feedback we’ve received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on YouTube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of Sesame Street, which is aimed at preschoolers. We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults in the show because we know that a child learns best when co-viewing with a parent or care-giver. We also value our viewer’s opinions and particularly those of parents.”

Sexy Katy is not the only singer/celeb to be pulled from a Sesame Street schedule. R&B Singer, Chris Brown, who appeared on Sesame Street in 2007 doing a duet with Elmo, was notified that his appearance would no longer be shown on reruns after the flack created around the 2009 Rhianna beating.

Elmo, however, announced on Good Morning America that Katy Perry will be invited back to Sesame Street for a future taping. Um, maybe on where she's wearing a tad more clothes?
